CEI 23-50 Plugs and Sockets for Domestic and Similar Uses

This Standard applies to plugs, fixed or mobile socket-outlets and extension cords for alternating current only, with or without earth contact, with a nominal voltage exceeding 50 V but not exceeding 440 V and with a nominal current not exceeding 32 A, intended for domestic and similar uses both indoors and outdoors. The rated current is limited to a maximum of 16 A for fixed sockets with screwless terminals.

This Standard also applies to plugs connected to connector cords, to plugs and mobile sockets connected to extension cords. It also applies to plugs and sockets that are components of a user device, unless otherwise specified in the relevant Standards of the user device. In particular, this Standard applies to adapters with the additional requirements of the CEI 23-57 Standard.

This Standard also applies to boxes for the installation of devices whose casing is an integral part of the same. Requirements for built-in boxes and boxes that are not an integral part of the appliance are contained in the CEI EN 60670-1 Standard.

This Standard does not apply to: non-removable two-pole 2.5 A 250 V plugs for class II appliances, the provisions of which contained in this Standard are replaced by those of the CEI EN 50075 Standard; plugs and sockets for industrial use; connectors; plugs, fixed and mobile sockets for very low safety voltage; fixed sockets combined with fuses, circuit breakers etc.
