Detailed Explanation of EN61000-3-2:2019 Limits for harmonic current emissions Standard

Limits for harmonic current emissions(EN/IEC 61000-3-2:2019) was promulgated on 1st, September, 2019. The new standard is applicable to the European Union and related countries and regions. This standard will be enforced on March 1, 2022 and will replace EN IEC 61000-3-2:2014. The new standard restructures and narrates some chapters, redefines equipment categories, and updates the measurement requirements for lamps, induction cookers, TV players and other equipment.

According to the harmonic current limit, the equipment is divided into the following four categories:

Class A—balanced three-phase equipment and all other household appliances, excluding those specified as belonging to Class B, C or D. The input current of Class A equipment does not exceed the following Table 1.

Class B-portable tools, the harmonics of the input current should not exceed 1.5 times the maximum limit given in Table 1 of Class A.

Class C-lighting equipment (including dimming devices)

  1. Rated power >25W
    1.1. For luminaires with incandescent lamps and built-in phase control dimming having a rated power greater than 25W, the harmonics of the input current shall not exceed the limits given in Table 1.
    1.2. For those types that include means for control(e.g. dimming, colour), the harmonics of the input current shall not exceed the harmonic current values derived from the percentage limits given in Table 2 for the maximum active input power(Pmax) condition when tested in both conditions.
  2. Lighting equipment having a rated power greater than or equal to 5W and less than or equal to 25W shall comply with one of the following three sets of requirements:
    2.1. The harmonic currents shall not exceed the power-related limits of Table 3, column 2;
    2.2. The third harmonic current is expressed as a percentage of the fundamental current and shall not exceed 86%, and the fifth harmonic current shall not exceed 61%. In addition, the phase should be ≤60°, the peak phase should be ≤65°, and the end phase should be ≥90°, see Figure 2;

    2.3. THD shall not exceed 70%, the third-order harmonic current should be expressed as a percentage of the fundamental current, and shall not exceed 35%, the fifth-order current should not exceed 25%, the seventh-order current shall not exceed 30%, and the ninth and eleventh-order currents shall not exceed 20% and the second-order current shall not exceed 5%.
    2.4. Class D—The input current has a defined “special waveform” and power should less than or equal to 600W equipments, the center line M coincides with the peak value of the input current. The harmonics of the input current of Class D equipment should not exceed Table 3.

LISUN has designed the LS2050C-IEC Digital Power Meter (High accuracy model), combined with the LSP-500VARC-Pst high-precision sine wave AC power supply, which fully meets the relevant requirements of EN/IEC61000-3-2:2019 harmonic current emission limit.
