Test Technology of EFT Pulse Generator

Abstract: Switching on/off of power grids and bounce of relay contacts will generate high-frequency dense electrical fast transient pulse bursts, which easily cause false reset and data loss of electronic equipment. The EFT pulse generator is the core test equipment for conducted immunity of electromagnetic compatibility. Centered on the test mechanism of the EFT pulse generator for simulating high-frequency transient interference, this paper takes LISUN EFT61000-4 series equipment as the research object. It systematically elaborates equipment functions, parameter differences of full models, standardized test procedures and adaptability to domestic & international standards. It is verified that the equipment can accurately reproduce pulse disturbance under actual working conditions, evaluate the anti-interference performance of electrical and electronic equipment, ensure stable operation of products in complex electromagnetic environments, and provide standardized test schemes for EMC certification of home appliances, industrial control, medical treatment and automotive electronics.

Core Test Principle and Functional Value of EFT Pulse Generator

The core function of the EFT pulse generator is to simulate high-frequency electrical fast transient pulse burst interference generated by switching of inductive loads on power grids, relay bounce and switch actions. Such pulses feature an extremely fast rising edge of 5ns, high repetition frequency and continuous release of pulse clusters. Although single pulse energy is low, accumulated continuous charge will break down chip logic and trigger system disorder. In accordance with GB/T 17626.4 and IEC 61000-4-4 standards, the equipment outputs standard pulse waveforms, injects pulses into power lines and communication signal lines of equipment under test (EUT) through coupling decoupling networks or capacitive coupling clamps, and observes the operation status of the equipment throughout the process, so as to evaluate the product’s ability to withstand pulse interference and optimize filtering, grounding and protection circuits in advance.

As a standard EFT pulse generator, LISUN EFT61000-4 is equipped with an Android Chinese & English touch control system with a full set of built-in standard test programs for one-click recall. The pulse frequency is continuously adjustable from 1kHz to 1000kHz, supporting automatic alternating output of positive and negative pulses, and free switching between dual internal resistances of 50Ω/1000Ω. It fully covers all test severity levels from civil to industrial products, suitable for enterprise R&D debugging and compliance testing of third-party laboratories.

The full series of EFT pulse generator adopts unified standard waveform parameters: pulse rise time 5ns±30%, pulse width 50ns under 50Ω load, pulse train length 0.01~20ms, and test duration programmable from 1~9999s. The standard EFT61000-4 features compact size with built-in 16A coupling decoupling network without extra accessories. It can be matched with EFT-CLAMP capacitive coupling clamp to complete communication line tests such as RJ45, EFT-CAL calibration kit to ensure accurate waveform measurement, and EFT-DESK standard test bench to build a compliant test environment.

Standard Complete Test Procedure of EFT Pulse Generator

Based on the interference simulation mechanism of the EFT pulse generator, EFT61000-4 forms a standardized reproducible test process:

Test Environment Setup: Equip with special test bench and isolated power supply, calibrate equipment waveform, and connect corresponding coupling network or capacitive coupling clamp;
Standard Parameter Recall: Select output voltage from 0.5kV~6kV according to product certification grade, set pulse frequency, pulse train period and positive-negative alternating mode;
EUT Power-on Operation: The EUT operates under full load, and pulses are continuously injected into power ports or signal cables through coupling devices;
Automatic Pulse Impact: The equipment outputs electrical fast transient pulse bursts cyclically for the set duration, and monitors equipment screen, data transmission and operating status throughout the test;
• Test Result Judgment: After the test cycle, the product passes immunity test without restart, crash, data disorder or function failure; if abnormality occurs, locate weak circuit points for rectification.
