SASO 2870 Energy Efficiency, Functionality, and Labeling Requirements for General Light Sources

Scope

Published on June 23, 2015, the Saudi Standard SASO 2870/2015 came into force on May 1, 2016. This standard sets the energy efficiency, functionality, and labeling requirements for indirect and direct general light sources with a luminous flux between 60 lumens and 12,000 lumens. The standard is implemented in two stages:
• First Stage (effective from May 1, 2016): Covers indirect and direct lamps equal to or above 60 watts.
• Second Stage (effective from May 1, 2016): Covers all indirect and direct lamps below 60 watts.
Additional Requirements
The standard also includes requirements related to safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and hazardous chemicals.
Covered Lighting Products

The lighting products covered under this standard include:
• Incandescent lamps
• Compact fluorescent lamps with integrated ballast (CFLi)
• Halogen lamps
• Light-emitting diode (LED) lamps (Incandescent retrofit types)
• Light-emitting diode (LED) lamps (Halogen retrofit types)

Compliance and Certification:
All manufacturers and exporters of lighting products within the scope of this standard must comply with its requirements and register with SASO to obtain an Energy Efficiency Certificate. Registered lighting products must affix the corresponding Energy Efficiency Labels. Additionally, all lighting product shipments will be inspected by Saudi Customs upon arrival to ensure the presence of the Energy Efficiency Label, Energy Efficiency Certificate, and Certificate of Conformity.
