It applies to all lithium-based cells and batteries intended for transport, covering technical specifications to mitigate risks such as thermal runaway, short circuits, or leakage during shipping.
This standard revises and enhances previous versions by updating key definitions (e.g., for button cells), adding provisions for batteries integrated into equipment, and refining test methods and packaging requirements. Its core goal is to ensure the safe transport of lithium cells and batteries globally, aligning with international logistics and safety protocols to protect personnel, property, and the environment.
