3. Benchtop color difference meter, also known as a benchtop spectrophotometer, has a reading window and uses color measurement and matching software when connected to a computer. It has high-precision color measurement and matching functions, has a large volume, stable performance, and high price.

What is a portable Spectrophotometer?

Usually,  portable spectrophotometers have better measurement accuracy and are mainly used in laboratories and various scientific research institutions; Portable spectrophotometer can achieve the detection of uneven surface of the tested object, such as granular fabrics, fabrics, wood, stones, bricks, etc; The small portable color difference instrument is a fast detection instrument suitable for construction sites. Therefore, portable color difference meters are also widely used, suitable for measuring reflection colors and color differences in various fields.

The measurement principle of the portable Spectrophotometer is to measure the spectral tristimulus value of the reference sample and the sample, so that the color difference between the sample and the reference sample can be measured quantitatively.

The geometric structures commonly used in color difference meters are divided into two types: directional and integrating sphere. The directional geometric structures are divided into two types: 45 °/0 ° and 0 °/45 °. 45 °/0 ° refers to the light illuminating the sample in the 45 ° direction, and the detector receives reflected light in the vertical direction; And 0 °/45 ° refers to the reflection of light in the 45 ° direction when the sample is irradiated vertically.

These two types of instruments do not include specular reflection light at all, and their measured data is consistent with human eye observation. In addition, this type of instrument can only measure the color of opaque samples; The geometric structure of the integrating sphere is divided into two types: d/8 ° and 8 °/d. The instrument of the integrating sphere structure is that light illuminates the sample in the horizontal direction, and the detector receives reflected or transmitted light in the direction of 8 ° with the sample. This instrument can not only measure the color of opaque samples but also transparent samples.

When using a portable Spectrophotometer for measurement, it is necessary to choose a standard light source, standard chromaticity observer, color space, and observation aperture. Measure the chromaticity coordinate values of the reference sample CIELAB L *, a *, b * or HunterLab L, a, b under the selected instrument conditions, and then measure the chromaticity coordinate values of three different parts of the sample under the same conditions.

If we judge a color solely based on a set of L * a * b * values, it does not have much practical significance. However, when we compare two colors, we can determine the difference between them based on the difference in their parameters.

By comparing the parameter values of the product and standard color samples, we can easily determine the current color status of the product. We can calculate the color difference between two colors through two sets of L * a * b * values, and the color difference is calibrated using △ Eab *, △ L *, △ a *, and △ b *.

If the directional portable colorimeter is non circular lighting, the same measuring point of the reference sample and the sample shall be rotated 90 ° in four directions to measure the four chromaticity coordinate values, and the arithmetic mean value is the chromaticity coordinate value of the measuring point.
