The Difference of Several Kinds of Withstand Voltage Testers

SUG255 Impulse Withstand Voltage Tester meets the standard IEC255-5,GB14711, there is 1.2/50μs output voltage waveform request, and the output voltage range is generally 12KV, no require current test and this device can not do current test.

SG61000-5 Surge Generator (also called surge current generator/ surge voltage generator, combination wave generator and so on) meets the standard IEC61000-4-5, EN61000-4-5, is kind of EMS test. The Surge Generator can do surge voltage test and surge current test. The voltage output waveform is 1.2/50μs, and the current output waveform is 8/20μs. There are several options for the output voltage range, from 0~4.8KV to 0~20KV or even larger. During the surge test, the large voltage and current will interfere with the surrounding power grid. Generally, we will suggest to equip an isolation transformer for this test to protect the surrounding power grid from being disturbed during the surge test.

Some customers ask whether it is possible to use SUG255 Withstand Voltage Tester for surge test. In fact, it is not recommended, because the surge test requires current surge test, that is to say, even if the sample pass the test use SUG255 withstand voltage tester, it does not guarantee that the sample can pass the surge test of the same voltage. Please select equipment strictly in accordance with the standard requirements.
